Northrop Grumman
Melbourne, Florida

Northrop Grumman called upon BRPH to modernize its employee café to create an enhanced commercial kitchen and eating facility, and to provide its team members with an inspiring area that would facilitate creative discussions and drive innovation.

BRPH provided design, interior design and construction administration services for the renovation and modernization of the first floor campus café within Building 222. The work was completed in two phases in the occupied facility, while limiting disruption to both the existing cafeteria and ongoing Northrop Grumman operations. The new kitchen was made fully operational in phase 1, prior to decommissioning the existing adjacent cafeteria, which was then modernized to a multipurpose dining and working space.

BRPH worked extensively with Northrop Grumman and its food and beverage operator with the visioning, programming, space planning, interior finishes, furniture selections and infrastructure improvements for the modernization of the café, which had not been updated since the 1980s.

Phase 1 entailed demo of the adjacent 6,000-square-foot secured office area, under-slab plumbing and electrical, extensive mechanical HVAC system improvements, commercial kitchen and equipment design, new natural gas main, and exterior site work — all without disruption to the existing cafeteria and dining area.

In Phase 2, the existing 4,000-square-foot cafeteria and dining area was decommissioned. this area was transformed into a modern and flexible space for eating and enhanced alternative working/meeting spaces.
