Florida Power & Light
Various Locations, Florida
As Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) continues to improve its capabilities for maintaining and restoring power to its customers, the BRPH team remains a committed partner.
In recent years, FPL has focused on establishing new service centers with storm staging capabilities across its service territory. These facilities help improve service center buildings and response times for repairs after major storm events or other emergencies. They provide secure locations for staff members and contractors to ride out storms and to pre-stage equipment for restoration efforts.
BRPH has provided architecture, engineering, interior design, construction administration and commissioning services for multiple Service Center Field Offices across the state of Florida. Each field office is designed as a two-story hardened concrete essential facility to withstand 226 MPH winds. The flexible design transitions from office facility to a Storm Management Command Post during hurricane and emergency events.
The field offices are used by FPL engineers and technicians for designing and maintaining ongoing electrical services and contain offices, flexible meeting space, break rooms, restrooms with showers, large storage, assembly and crew areas, and open work areas. During emergency events, the spaces are designed to transition to support storm management teams. The transitional spaces include a flexible assembly room capable of being subdivided into two spaces for meeting rooms and also converts to bunk areas to house up to 100+ Storm Riders during a hurricane. The field offices also include staging areas for approximately 50 service line trucks at each site.
