Serving 900 students of military families and a staff of 120 may seem like a challenge for some. But for BRPH, it is another opportunity to design a new and innovative learning environment. Located in Puerto Rico, Fort Buchanan Antilles Elementary School has allowed BRPH to further extended our services and create another state of the art school.
BRPH's design includes 21st Century School design elements, including flexible classroom spaces and high-tech infrastructure and equipment. Our design encourages multiple learning and teaching modes. Rather than traditional classrooms, this design focuses on the opportunity for students to acquire soft skills via casual meetings and spontaneous work sessions in the larger, multi-purpose common areas.
The design of Fort Buchanan provides the opportunity for learning outside and inside, which allows for natural supervision and ample daylight for students and staff. The school has a large special education population as well as students have the resources to participate in the English as a Second Language Program. Designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification, the environmental features are expected to result in an energy consumption reduction of 40 percent.
