On January 21, 1986 after the launch of the Challenger Space Shuttle, and again on February 1, 2003 after the launch of space shuttle Columbia, America mourned the loss of 14 heroes who sacrificed their lives for space exploration. As their families and friends grieved for them, so did all of America. Now, those who lost their lives can be celebrated for their bravery at the redesigned Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Forever Remembered.
To best honor the austronauts and their missions, the BRPH team provided architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering services for the redesign, as well as interior design and finishes selection, fire protection and life safety features, and more. The new 2,000 SF gallery space features an elegant curved entry and is divided into three sepearte viewing areas. Each area varies in size and display method, including wall-mounted acrylic displays with back-lit surrounds, video walls with multiple screens, astronaut memorabilia and large acrylic viewing windows displaying the solemn remembrances of the space shuttles lost.
Now open to the public, this memorial gallery will ensure that the teams of the Challenger and Columbia space shuttles truly are Forever Remembered.
