Taking productivity to new heights
Boeing Everett 40-27, Final Assembly Building Expansion
The Boeing Company
- Design Services
In 2013 The Boeing Company made the decision to expand their 777 Assembly Building, adding over 200,000 additional square footage to the existing factory. BRPH provided full design services for the new building which includes the interface between the old factory and the new addition.
The high bay manufacturing space provides a 350 foot clear span which is designed to support multiple 40 ton overhead bridge cranes. When creating a design for this expansion, BRPH had much to consider. The team not only needed to develop a design for the end state of the building, but also had to work with Boeing SSG, Boeing Commercial Airplane, the contractor and commissioning team to ensure that the sequencing of the contractor’s work would not disrupt the adjacent manufacturing operations.
This system, like the rest of the 40-27, had to be designed to accommodate not only the expansion joint between it and the adjacent building, but it also needed provisions for the potential future connection to the adjacent building’s material transfer aisles. The BRPH team worked hard to allow the manufacturing and assembly process to evolve and include the connectivity that will be needed in the future.
